That is so cool! On the island in Maine where I lived for a while (and hopefully return to) they had an exchange of paints, clothes, books, toaster-ovens, computers etc..etc at the dump. Being on an island, that often was primary choice instead of taking the ferry to the main-land and buy more junk.
Zee - the absolute mostest coolest... my dream job! landfill regulations here are very strict, but the management of the city landfill is keen to partner with us in a similar way to what Maine is doing, diverting re-usable goods to our store before they hit the trash heaps, and giving us 'credit' at the landfill for the amount of landfill space we save the city. this means that there will be little if any dumping fees for disposing of goods we eventually have to give up on trying to sell.
Mezamashii- yes, it's thrilling! ...right up there in the top ten best things that have ever happened to me. thanks!
I'll join your other friends to offer my utmost congratulations. This is going to be a wonderful opportunity for you and I look forward to some entertaining posts now that you'll be spending a happier 40 hours (or more :-)) weekly.
Congratulations on the appointment and I look forward to learning more in the future. In Australia it is in its infancy and I noticed my previous employer was the cornerstone sponsor to the 2008 National Conference and the Restore Launch Gala Dinner.
I'm a musician and music teacher, living in a gorgeous old house in a small town in northern Alberta, Canada. I'm living a simple life, growing a garden filled with delicious vegetables, fruits, and soul nourishing flowers, bartering with nearby producers of organic meats, fruits and veggies. I host house concerts for Canada's Home Routes concert series featuring fantastic live music from all over the Americas.
