yorik and i

yorik and i did a photo shoot. the local library and amateur theatre co. are doing their bi-annual "friends of the library" fundraiser, on the weekend before hallowe'en. the play is called Dinner At Eight, Dead By Nine. i've somehow been trusted with decorating (mwahhhahahahahahahaha). so yorik, good buddy that he is, agreed to pose for promo photos. the white candles have been dripped with the wax from red candles for a gory look ( i got that idea from Martha Stewart, believe it or not) and i added some gloops of red glitter glue/paint for a little more intense color.

the fundraising dinner theatre is the weekend before hallowe'en. so i get to bring the gory goodies home and have them on hand for my students' last lesson before the feast of souls, and i'll have the candles all lit up amongst yorik and his bones in the window by the front door, for the neighborhood kids as they trick and treat on hallowe'en night. i'm not crazy about hallowe'en, but i do like the kids, so i try to make it fun for them, and just creepy enough to feel adventurous.

cicero - thanks - i'm working on a bouquet of black silk roses with spiderwebs stretched over them, cackle, cackle.

claire - thanks - sometimes Martha Stewart surprises me... her idea. i can't have the candles lit at the dinner theatre, because it's in a school gym... fire codes. but i think they'll be effective none the less.

That's a great picture and I'd love to see the play. Hallowe'en is my husband's favourite holiday since it happens during his birthday month but kids stopped trick or treating in our neighbourhoods years ago and eventually we stopped decorating. We still keep goodies just in case.

su - thanks - the local theatre group is nothing to write home about oft times - downright embarrassing sometimes, but one likes to support local efforts. i'm supposed to play my harp for the pre-dinner music. kids still go door to door here; small town, everyone knows everyone.... but the parents often follow along in a vehicle just to keep an eye out, and there aren't as many kids as in days gone by.

z - i can hear the blues riff in the background.... thanks; i'm loving the digital camera.

gary - yes, i too knew him well, horatio

The phatom fiddler. -what wonderful creative picture and no doubt your fiddle was equally captivating to add to the opening !!

the phantom phiddler....! love it! actualy, i'm playing the harp for this one. i can sing along, and don't need to work something up with an accompanist or such-like.

just noticed that i got the name of the play wrong.... i'd written 'Murder at Eight, Dead by Nine'... it's actually 'Dinner at Eight, Dead By Nine'.

Like the pictures - but is Halloween trick and treating an American invasion for Canadian as it is for brits?

granny p - Hallowe'en may be another US invasion.... it hadn't occurred to me. but it's very commercialized. tons of junk food are devoured and mountains of cheap costumes overload the landfills.
