Yukon

i've stumbled over the journal i started keeping 35 years ago, when my partner of the time and i left northern alberta for our Great Adventure In The Yukon. my eldest son came across it a few years ago when visiting me, and stayed up all night reading it. there's another somewhere, which continues the tale.... the second has drawings illustrating moments that seemed particularly illustragenic. i hope it shows up as well.....

i'm thinking it might be fun to post some of the stories that the journal entries bring to mind, and, should i manage to get my life under control, perhaps i'll have some time to try illustrating them.....

I remember you wrote a little about your time in the Yukon when you first started blogging. More stories would be wonderful; illustrated stories would be extraordinary.

Vincent, Cicero & Susan - you're very encouraging; you can't begin know how much that means to me. my time in the Yukon wilderness is kept in the closet of family 'secrets'....just another strange thing Diana did that no one wants to think much about. it astonished me that anyone would be interested, but a friend came across the journal in some books i'd 'stored' on her bookshelves during the move a couple of years ago. she was half way through it before she came up for air. then she called me and apologized for reading it, because it was my personal 'stuff'.... but told me quite frankly that she wasn't giving it up till she'd finished it.

i'll try to pick an evening of the week to spend on this. some 'me' time, which i badly need. no promises about the quality of illustrations. i have very little training, and it's years since i made any effort at all to draw. thanks to your encouragement, i'm excited about beginning.

I wouldn't stress about the drawings too much if I were you. Sometimes the best bet is to allow for impressions without much detail.

You do realize something like this could evolve into a very big project, don't you? I eventually ran flat into some Adventures that scared me and I still haven't broken through that barrier.

You could be doing a service of encouragement :-)

Linda - hello! nice to 'see' you again! you can take some credit / blame for any efforts i make in the art department ;0) you inspire.

Susan - yes, it could indeed be a very big project, but i'm planning to start small and take my time. there are enough deadlines elsewhere. right now, the big thing is just to START.

i'm told we do the hard things when we're ready for them... perhaps just walk around the barriers to somewhere else, until the right time comes to take them down.

Claire - thanks so much for your encouragement. still trying to get my life in order enough to just get started. but i WILL get started.... soon.

Hi there!

Just wanted to stop by and say thank you for dropping by my blog earlier today. So nice to meet you!

I just read your blog profile and discovered you're a musician and the play the violin.

Well, I just want you to know that the violin is my absolute favorite musical instrument. I LOVE it!

Again, nice to meet you. I'll be back!

I’m pleased you have decided to include your interesting log about the Yukon experience. That must have been one of the last remaining wildernesses at the time and you’re to be congratulated in coping so well with the extreme challenges not to mention the irritation of mechanics.

Bertha looks like a red hot beauty and I note your fond memoires of her converted as a camper. I did post before so if my prior comment comes up as well you will have double whammy. This comment is briefer
Beat wishes

Lindsay - your first post seems to be lost in cyberspace.... glad you tried again. Yes, there are still expanses of the Yukon that are largely unsullied. The picture isn't actually Bertha, but an image I borrowed, of a clone. She was in pretty fine shape, but a little less shiny, no thanks to the mechanic.
